Lacey and I were bored one night so we got these game chairs that becca had bought for the boys and entertained ourselves ! Wow ... that was fun !! About Laceys Fight On the morning of Monday, March 29, 2010, 21-year-old Lacey McDaniel was driving to work on Highway 81 in Loganville, Georgia in her new car when she had a tragic accident. Her car was torn into two pieces and she was ejected from the car. Witnesses who were first on the scene found her unconscious, her body badly shattered but she was alive. Rescue units arrived quickly and she was Life-Flighted to Grady Memorial Hopsitals Trauma Center, where she is todayfighting the fight of her life to stay alive. Her leg and hip are crushed, her lungs have collapsed and she has traumatic brain injury and swelling. She has already endured grueling surgery to stabilize her and will face more surgeries and a long recovery. That is, if she wins the first major battle in her fight: Doctors tell us that the first 72 hours after injuries as serious as Laceys are the most critical hours. At the time of launching this website, http://laceysfight.com/ she is in her 60th hour on life support and has made progress but has also had setbacks. update Wednesday 6:50pm by TRACI SANDERS on MARCH 31, 2010 Just received new information about Laceys condition. It appears that her right lung has collapsed again so they are working on repairing that. They are slowly trying to wean her off of the ventilator but cant do that too quickly because of all the meds that she is on right now and they arent sure yet if she is able to breathe on her own to sustain enough oxygen for her brain. The brain/nerve damage is extensive and they are continuously trying to repair that. They plan to place a feeding tube in her tomorrow for added nutrition and they plan to give her a tracheotomy sometime next week. This is to provide a constant passageway for breathing while reconstructive surgery is being done on the rest of her body. I have been told that they will try to start working on the pelvic damage sometime next week if her brain regains some strength/functioning ability. This is what I have so far. As Ive said before, they continue to stress that this is going to be a long healing process and we will take it moment by moment. Hang in there Lacey, we love you.
